Jim Butcher Biography

Born in Independence, Missouri on October 26th, 1971 Jim Butcher is a New York Times best selling fantasy author best known for his series The Dresden Files and his series The Codex Alera.

At the age of 19 Jim completed writing his first novel and according to him it was horrible. After 2 more novels he finally rewrote the first one. He realized then that his writing still needed some work so while he attended a writing class he wrote the first Dresden book, then the next and last the third. When he decided to have the first book published he met with a literary agent named Ricia Mainhardt and his writing career finally kick started. His first book was released in April 2000.

On April 5, 2004, Sci-Fi announced the production of a two-hour pilot film they would be airing called The Dresden Files. On October 5, 2005, Variety reported that the television project had been officially granted permission to be produced by Sci Fi, with renowned Hans Beimler and Robert Wolfe coming on board as executive producers and also with famous Nicholas Cage, Golightly, and Gendel as directors. Production of the pilot took place in Toronto, Canada and the original plan was to air the movie in the summer of 2006 when movies are most popularly seen. However, the two-hour pilot was not shown for some reason, and the show based on the book series premiered on January 21, 2007 with the first episode Birds of a Feather, intended to be the third episode. The show had mixed reviews.

After the season one finale aired on April 15, 2007, fans of both the book and TV show series began a letter campaign in an attempt to have the show renewed. Sci-Fi decided not to continue production since the rating weren’t high on the Dresden Files and cancelled the show that following August.
