Marion Zimmer Bradley Biography

Born on June 3rd, 1930 and died September 25th, 1999 Marion Zimmer Bradley was an American fantasy author who has published many popular books such as The Mists of Avalon and the Darkover Series. Marion Zimmer Bradley had been born on a family farm in Albany, New York. She was born during the Great Depression and she began writing in 1949. She married Robert Alden Bradley on October 26, 1949 but then they filed for divorce on May 19, 1964. They had a son named David Robert Bradley who was born in 1950 and passed away in 2008. 

After her divorce Bradley married her second husband Walter H. Breen on June 3, 1964. Together they had a beautiful daughter named Moira Greyland. Moira Greyland became a professional harpist and singer. The two also had a son named Patrick who later changed his name and decided to be known as Mark Greyland.



In 1965 Marion Bradley graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harding Simmons University located in Abilene, Texas. Soon after her graduation she moved to Berkeley, California in order to pursue a graduate studies degree at the University of California located in Berkeley. She did this between the years 1965 and 1967.

In 1979 Bradley and her second husband Breen separated but remained married. They continued to have a business relationship and even both lived on the same street for nearly over a decade. The two officially divorced on May 9th, 1990. That was the year Breen was arrested on child molestation charges of a 12 year old boy. 

In 1965 she graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Texas though she began writing in 1949. In 1958 her first novel The Planet of Savers actually laid down the foundation for her bestselling series Darkover. Due to the popularity with Mists of Avalon and her Darkover series, Bradley was awarded the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2000, a year after her passing.
