Born on April 20th, 1939 is an American author who is more known for his works in the fantasy genre. If you have ever watched The Last Unicorn movie that you most likely have heard of him. When he was just 19 years old, Beagle began to write his first novel, “A Fine and Private Place.” This happened in 1965. In the 70’s Beagle became a screenwriter and was responsible for the first screenplay of The Lord of the Rings. Two decades later he wrote a high-profile screenplay for specifically for episode 71 of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation entitled “Serek.” Beagle's screenwrting career distracted him from his career as a novelist, his career as a magazine nonfiction author, and his career as a short-story writer. However, in the mid '90s he returned his writing career to write fiction of all lengths and has since then he has produced new works at a regular pace since.
In addition to his own literary masterpieces, Beagle is heir to the literary masterpieces of well-known science fiction author Edgar Pangborn, Edgar's sister Mary, and their mother Georgia Wood Pangborn often helped him out with his writings. Ever since the year 2003 Beagle he has been working to bring the best of these three popular authors' fiction back into the world. In 2010 IDW Publishing Company officially released a six-issue comic book edition of The Last Unicorn. The collected hardcover edition was officially released in January 2011 and premiered on the #2 spot on the New York Times Hardcover Graphic Novel bestseller list.
