Steven Erikson was born on October 7th, 1959 and is a very popular Canadian novelist who specializes in writing in the science fiction and fantasy genre. He was born in Toronto, Canada and then later grew up in Winnipeg. At one point in his life Erikson lived in the UK with his wife and son but now currently lives in Winnipeg with them.
Erikson is best-known for his work the ten-volume fantasy series titled Malazan Book of the Fallen, which amazingly by 2006 had sold over 250,000 copies worldwide. This series has been commonly called "the most significant work of epic fantasy since Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant,” and even the world renowned Fantasy Book Review described this amazing series as "the best fantasy series of recent times." However, this is not the only time that the Malazan Book of the Fallen series has been complemented. Fellow fantasy author Stephen Donaldson, refers to the author of Malazan book of the Fallen as "an extraordinary writer.” In an interview with sffworld.com, Erikson admitted that he doubted the series would even become mainstream and popular, and was actually very surprised at how successful the series had become
