Chronicles of Amber (Roger Zelazny)
Full of mystery, adventure, and romance, Amber is complex, lyrical, and a bit weird. It's one man's journey through a bizarre landscape as he seeks to find his past.

Ok so I've started reading this based on your recommendation and I have to say I'm so far only halfway impressed. It hooked me in the beginning, I liked the writing and was intrigued to see where it went. To me it kind of dropped off after the first few scenes though. I am about halfway through the first book and will continue reading to see if it gets better (the positive reviews have me pretty hopeful). I am kinda picky about writing. At first, Corwin's ability to cover up his lack of memories was believable but it kind of dropped off once he did start to recover some of them. It just feels fake. But it's original enough and had started out on a good note so continue to read, I shall!
loved this book one of the first i read and ive been reading fantasy for years now.
Great books, fantastic author.
The only way this series could be any better was if there were more books!
I also recommend. I love the pacing of the first book. The whole series is great, and just damn fun to read - This is what fantasy is all about!
The Corwin books (first 5) I read in one weekend and after I closed the last page, I flipped to the first page of Nine Princes in Amber and began reading it all over again. I have never done that before or since on any book. Without a doubt, this is my favorite story of all time. I am content for it to be in the top 25, but IMO, should be top 10 at least.
Don't get me wrong...the Amber books are what got me reading Zelazny, but books like Lord of Light, This Immortal, and My Name is Legion and The Isle of the Dead offer more sophisticated characterization and more layered storytelling. And Zelazny is among the greatest short story writers of SF and fantasy EVER.
I picked up this book on a visit to the book store while looking for the thickest book in the shelf (something I do when I am in the mood for something long) As it turned out I read the book in a weekend. Cover to cover, could not put it down.
And yes the Corwin books were by far the best ones.
Absolutely top notch! My favorite of all time. Yes, the Corwin books are better than the later ones, but Zelazny didn't live long enough to finish the series, so who knows what he was building to.
This is fantasy at its best. What got me into the genera in the first place.
Corwin Lives!
