Pat Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicle [spoilers] - the rambling review of an undecided reader

While I did like his prose (he did a great job on describing the music scenes and stuff like that) the world really came to life for me, the story was indeed a bit too unfocused for me. Two big books and the "danger" is still far away and so much time spent on training and little adventures...

Nice discussion, will read it full when I have time. Something else I discovered today because it was in the news: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandrayaan-1 Another connection to the "moon". Wonder if it was deliberate.

Pat Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicle [spoilers] - the rambling review of an undecided reader

"Audio-Reading" 2nd book right now. I'm only 20% into it though. At the moment i don't like the pacing at all. It feels a bit boring right now, story is always around Denna, somewhere in a bar or at the library. Maybe this is done on purpose to lull the Reader before pacing and real action sets...

    What got you into fantasy?

Yeah, I absolutely agree. Those meme group explanations are spot on. I also like those nostalgia talks, about the 90's music or tv shows back then or the games we played. :) PS: My gf studied in Venlo and her parents are still living close to the Dutch border. So I happen to go to Holland from...

    What got you into fantasy?

Hmmm, its strange but it seems I was never NOT into fantasy as long as I could remember. - Read out Brother's Grimm to my little brother when I was very young. - My neighbor who was 2 years older than me also was very much into anything from Star Wars to Neverending Story and other stuff and...

Is it a coincidence that the most hated female chars on well known fantasy books are names Denna and Renna? :D

    Audiobooks, anyone?

I know what you mean. I have a friend who can't listen to audio books while driving - but his Problem is the other way around. He can't concentrate on driving as good as he wants to. So...

    Audiobooks, anyone?

I'm a big fan of Audio books, because it's perfect for time management. At home, I can barely finish a book in a week, because of my other hobbies (photography) or other obstacles like actually visiting friends :P Audio books let me "read" books during my drive to work and back and it's...

What percentage of books do you enjoy?

Not an easy answer to this question. I know I liked nearly all books I read, but thinking more about it, there were a bunch I barely got through. And those I didn't really ENJOY that much. Sp I went with ~75% or 3 out of 4 books I really like.

no problem mate. Thought this might be interesting. As for your statement above: Given that Sanderson and Rothfuss are friends or at least often talk to each other there IS a decent chance that this explanation could be true. On the other hand, I'm with you that this seems more like a backward...

Brandon Sanderson: "Which then brings up the sympathy slider, and... Yeah. I've found this to be a real useful tool, particularly when talking to new writers, where I say, "Look at these three areas." I do want to highlight, though, this idea of the Mary Sue. Be really careful. When I say to...

New Fantasy or the question of what did I miss?

I'm definately reading Malazan and the Lamora books later on. Elantris I've read a few years ago (without knowing the author at all at the time, I just went into a book store and bought it because it sounded interesting and had a nice cover :p ) I'm reading Way of Kings at the moment. Only 100...
