It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

Will do! Plenty of reading time anyways what with the quarantine and all...

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

THANKS! Great that I know this now, whilst I'm only 50 pages in. I was able to follow it, because I saw the first season of the tv-show, but I was wondering about the chronology. I figured later books would treat the earlier events flashback style. I will now buy the 2 earlier books. Very...

I've now started on the Blood of Elves (first book of the Witcher).

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I read some of them, but I cannot remember much from it to be honest.

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

Did you ever find out what happened to the horse though?

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I'm reading 'Total Recall' by Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's his auto-biography about his life and it is one of the most engaging and interesting biographies I've ever read. This man has had an extraordinary life and -in my view- is a living example of what a person can achieve if he/she has clear...

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

Hmmm, I agree that that the overall story and purpose was a bit vague in season 1. I did really like the season though, as in my opinion the creators really managed to give it a special feel, almost like an RPG-like quality (Geralt downing potions before going into battle for instance). About...

It's January 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I've finished the last 2 books in Bakker's Aspect Emperor quartet (follow up to the Prince of Nothing trilogy). Although I thought the books were decent, they were nowhere near as good as the first trilogy. Also, the last two books devolved into ridiculousness at times, with entire sections...

Are Book Readers more Critical of Movies?

On topic: I am more critical of movies than all my friends, and I'm also the most avid reader. I don't know whether there is any correlation there though. I try to base my view on the merit of each medium and like afa correctly states you cannot expect the same level of detail from movies as...

Are Book Readers more Critical of Movies?

This is so true... When I was fresh out of university I was a history teacher. You would not believe the times kids told me that apparently "history can be fun!" just because I made classes engaging (showing up in full battle armour, being able to carry a good story etc). Of course there can be...

What Movie or TV show are you watching?

I also watched this in the first weeks of January. Agreed on the DD / videogame style story. Was pleasantly surprised to see Geralt downing battle and health potions! I've now started on Vikings (with my wife) and BoJack Horseman (sans wife). I like both series so far.

It's November 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I'm now reading Bakker's second series set in Earwa; the Aspect-Emperor. Just finished the Prince of Nothing series. I read both series some 8 years ago (the second series until book 2, the others were not released yet back then) and I absolutely loved them. Great dark atmosphere and style...

I'm watching Watchmen. Am now on episode 5. Enjoying the absolute weirdness.

It's November 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

The Red Knight is awesome in my opinion, so I will definitely put this new series on my TBR list. Thanks for pointing it out

It's November 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I'm currently re-reading Bakker's Prince of Nothing series. Am now racing through book 2 (the Warrior-Prophet) and having a lot of fun. Morbid fun though (these books are as dark as I remembered). How 'bout you?

It's October 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Today I started re-reading the Prince of Nothing series by Scott Bakker. I read it some years ago, right up until book 2 in the Aspect Emperor series. I've now bought the final 2 books in that series and I'm planning on reading all the books in consecutive order now.

I like *this* so recommend me.....

Added to kenubrion's recommendations: Post-Apocalyptic world (pandemic): Earth Abides The Postman Post-Apocalyptic world (zombies): World War Z I am Legend (the zombies are more like vampires, but the vibe is the same) Horrors: Have you tried anything by Dan Simmons? He's the writer of the...

It's October 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Halfway through October already, but forgot to make the new thread.... In any case, I'm reading Children of Ruin, a sci-fi book by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I'm also reading the Meditations by Marcus Aurelius on the side. So currently no Fantasy for me, although I did just buy the full Aspect...

It's October 2019: What sci-fi book are you reading?

I'm currently reading Children of Ruin, the sequel to Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovky. I quite like the book, although after reading the Expanse series, this one is relatively bleak in terms of character development.

Wheel of Time lands with Sony

Indeed, the actor for Perrin looks more buff than I first thought based on photos of him I found online. Must have followed quite a hefty fitness routine.
