It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

Since the sci-fi threads are dead I will just say I purchased Children of Time and it's interesting. Read the sample, bought the book. Might read Best Served Cold next - on sale in US Kindle although it's only $7.99 in Canada.

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I guess I'm in the minority but I was not impressed with Spinning Silver at all. Loved Uprooted. Did not enjoy this. 2/5 Full Review - no real spoilers at all though

Wheel of Time lands with Sony

There is some good info in here. There will be 8 episodes in season 1 and the first 4 were complete. They were filming episodes 5-6 and prepping for 7-8 while also writing season 2. They sand Rand visited 24 different places on his initial journey and that had to be cut. Rafe admitted some...

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I’m halfway through Spinning Silver but this is one of the more dismal, depressing books I have ever read. There is little to no joy in this book and I don’t care that much about any of the characters. I will read the whole thing as it has gotten more interesting but this is nowhere close to...

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I loved Uprooted. Fell for that book right away. I’m 56 pages into Spinning Silver and it’s OK. The two main girls are a bit interesting and the mystery of the Staryk is OK but there isn’t a real hook for me. I could DNF this book right now and not really care. I hope this picks up soon. It has...

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

Half way through Kings of the Wyld and it’s been very enjoyable. Good character mission. Almost like a fantasy version of Italian Job or Oceans Eleven. It’s got good humour. Nothing super original but fun so far.

Post your own Top 25 Best Fantasy Books

I still haven’t read the Scott Lynch Gentleman Bastard series and the Demon Cycle. Need to bump those up on my to read list. Are they both near finished or never ending series?

Post your own Top 25 Best Fantasy Books

lol. I just decided to list almost everything. Sometimes reading about books you don’t like helps just as much. The biggest things were I needed to simply update stuff I had read since that post maybe 3 years ago?

Book deals and discounts (post here)

These last two deals have not been available to us Canadians unfortunately. Just started reading kings of the Wyld although Spinning Silver just arrived from the library (we have a county system that shares books across many branches) and may pause to read that. I liked Bennett last series so...

Post your own Top 25 Best Fantasy Books

Well I updated my list. Might have missed some books but it was very incomplete from when I first wrote it. If I re-read things I'm sure my scores might be different or the order slightly different. Oh well. A good thread to have!

I am going to have to update that quite a bit.

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

Thank you! Do we have a favourite book thread? We should probably create one for fantasy and sci-fi where everyone can list Their Top 10 books or something. That might be cool.

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

Just finished Starsight. Very enjoyable sequel. Different from the first book with a largely new cast and new environment with their own problems. Fast paced and enjoyable. Just like the first book this is an easy read for all ages. Now a long delay for the final two books. I’d like to read...

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

I think Mistborn could work as that magic system would be more like the Matrix and maybe not as expensive. That’s not a super high fantasy with fire shooting out of your hands and the magic isn’t over powering imo. They can still easily die for the most part. I think the Black Prism would be...

It's March 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I finished the Black Gate series and am halfway through Starsight by Sanderson. I really enjoyed the first book Skyward and the second is different and fun all the same so far. Definitely very young adult in terms of easy writing, reading, no foul language or adult content but great books for...

It's February 2020: What fantasy book are you reading?

I get annoyed if I read the word “ornate” too often. I know it’s easy to describe fancy things that way but some older books went overboard.

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

My brother and a friend of mine both loved GOT but they aren’t interested in a new fantasy show if it has too much magic. I think afa is correct that high fantasy with magic is a hard sell.

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

Yeah, the Lightbringer series would be great but the special effects needed to pull that off would require an enormous budget. That was one of my concerns with Wheel of Time. Hopefully they don’t cut corners.

If there was a brand new Fantasy TV show

I'd simply like the series to be PG13. My wife quit watching the Witcher since she was sick of the blatant nudity. The last straw was episode 5. I'm not sure why everyone thinks they have to be like GOT and have graphic nudity all over the place. That attention grabbing stuff doesn't move the...
