Damn that pic is huge @Lyra

The prose is definitely captivating. I've got to do a full read, instead of the bits and pieces I keep finding myself doing.

It's obvious that the answer to this question lies with each reader individually, and, more importantly, where the lines are drawn between homage and plagiarism, and when it's okay to take an idea and when it isn't. I'm okay with it-- I mean, damn, Neverwinter Nights 2 is one of my favourite...

Lol @lyraseven, either I'm going mad again or your post is changing every time I look at it. Excellent point, however. EDIT: Which reminds me, I probably should get on with that book instead of moping around the internet.

    Anyone heard of Dreamwalker?

I've just realised I've barely been giving out ratings. Silly me-- completely forgot about them; if anyone has a truckload of alerts with likes, agrees, informative or whatever from me, then you know why.

To me, it just tastes disgusting. I'm all about the tea. EDIT: Disgusting British stereotype, me.

@Andrew.J I think I'll go back to it. I don't know, if I start just hating it now, it makes me feel kind of dirty. I'm no critic-- I don't want to become one.

    Anyone heard of Dreamwalker?

For me the opinion of the masses is worth more than one person's opinion, no matter how eloquent. I never find reviews so useful, but I understand why a lot of people do.

April 2016 - What Fantasy Books Are You Reading?

I guess. You can probably tell I don't have massive experience with that area. If it has buildings, a fair amount of people walking around, and something out of the ordinary, I would've classed it as Urban Fantasy. Feel free to correct me though.

    Anyone heard of Dreamwalker?

Yeah, I get that @Alucard. The public lists are the ones right at the bottom. They're shortened, controlled by the votes of the people who visit the site. Not sure exactly how the algorithm works, but I've always found them a better starting point for me. That and I'm a terrible impulse buyer...

April 2016 - What Fantasy Books Are You Reading?

@rudyjuly2. Ha, I still really like everything I read when I was younger. In fact, the more I read, the more I find myself drawn to children's books. The collection of them I've got now is pretty big; I guess I'm regresssing :). It also helps that children's books generally are the ones with...

April 2016 - What Fantasy Books Are You Reading?

As for Urban Fantasy, I don't mind it, but I don't see much special in it-- I will say I enjoyed The Mortal Instruments much more than I thought I would, however. Its the only foray into Urban Fantasy I've really made. That's probably because almost all of the people I see IRL are classic...

    Anyone heard of Dreamwalker?

Also @Alucard. I come here for the discussion really. I don't pay all that much attention to the lists, because there've been a couple of books on them that I like, and a few that I don't; enough to convince me that the tastes of me and the author (Ben, is it?) are pretty divergent. They're good...

April 2016 - What Fantasy Books Are You Reading?

@Silvion Night. Nothing to worry about. I was posting FAR too late in the morning yesterday. Paolini nicked the Earthsea magic system. The thing is, I like his world too much to abandon it. There've been some incredible arguments for me to stick with the series, so, regardless of adversity...

I don't know. I'm very tempted to stick with the series, if only because I enjoy the world he created so much. I was looking for a lighter read, after all. And I'm not someone to throw aside a book because of a single issue, that, to be honest, won't matter to me as soon as I get immersed in the...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try Dreamwalker out later-- don't want to have bought them for nothing, but I'll bear everything else in mind.

I think I might be leaning on your side, @lyraseven. I'll see tomorrow. Also, I've spent too much time reading Eragon to throw it away, "common opinion" or not. I have a lot of respect for Earthsea, which was why I was (and still am) annoyed at the thievery. Still, you make a lot of sense, and...

I'll let this marinate for a bit and take a look later. I'd rather like Inheritance Cycle if I could, I hate hating a book, but I can't deny the points put forward by Moonspawn and Sparrow. You guys are too good at putting your opinion over!

What doesn't help is that I'm awful at arguing. I'm pretty empathetic, so I'll see everyone's point of view. I'm indecisive, so I'll swap sides frequently. I'm a shit critic-- only infrequently can I put into words what I like or dislike about a book.
