February 2016 - What fantasy books are you reading?

The last week and a half I read Bands of Mourning, the Mistborn: Secret History novella, both by Brandon Sanderson, and This Census-Taker by China Miéville. Here's what I thought about that last one: I'm not sold by this first acquaintance with China Miéville, not by any lack of quality or...

The Bands of Mourning - Brandon Sanderson

Here's what I wrote on Goodreads: It's a thing Brandon Sanderson does rather well, mapping and planning his stories. He's rather rigorous. He made this technique his brand, but I'm starting to think some of his stories are suffering because of it. He's so focused on his his plot and quirks that...

    The Expanse

I watched all of them. Some of the critique is correct. Story isn't that well established, but it gets better. Agree with the Earth POV. It doesn't at all that much, but it might be smart to have Avasarala established in preparation for the the next season(s). The last several episodes I liked a...

The Axe and the Throne by M.D. Ireman

Could you elaborate a bit on what the book is about without spoiling major plotlines?

    The Revenant

Went to see it yesterday, despite the typical Hollywood-esque ending I really liked it. Splendid imaginary an great acting performances. Also, kuddos for the great scene at the beginning when the Ree attacked the Fur hunters.

January 2016 - What fantasy books are you reading?

Interesting, added it to the TBR tome. In other news, I finished the second Dresden book and liked it. Plenty of action, though a little meagre on the plot and worldbuilding. Moved on to Bands of Mourning. Enjoying it at 27% in.

    Sanderson. Where to start then?

It appears that Sanderson released a novella together with Bands of Mourning as a surprise. He's a machine. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Mistborn-Secret-History-Brandon-Sanderson-ebook/dp/B01B0NS93U

House of Chains - Book 1 (Faces in the Rock)

He got tattooed while imprisoned by the Malazans, I think (checked it on the Malazan wiki).

House of Chains - Book 1 (Faces in the Rock)

You certainly picked up most of the important elements and Trull Sengar will become clear in Midnight Tides (next book), although he has a satisfying arc in HoC.

    House of Chains - Prologue

I had the same reaction at the time. Give it some more time (and books).

    Children's Fantasy

I don't know, it's the first RD book I've read/I'm reading, but The BFG is another you could certainly add, especially since Spielberg is adapting said work.
