    Glen Cook’s Glittering Stone (spoilers)

I remember getting to the end of the BC series and encountering the Glittering Stone that can be used to travel to other worlds. It was really interesting! Seems like his different worlds may all be connected somehow. His straight fantasy worlds (excluding the Garrett PI series) seem to be very...

    Pat Rothfuss's blog

I feel bad for him if he’s suffering from depression, I tend to stay away from writers personal blogs. I’m a conservative and it seems nearly every writer I’ve come across with an active blog seems to be a liberal or socialist. I don’t mind other viewpoints, however I’ll start to notice their...

Glen Cook's Instrumentalities Of The Night

I've read all four books and really enjoyed them. Anyone know how he'll release book five?

Glen Cook's Instrumentalities Of The Night

Yes another Glen Cook thread, sorry. I've read all four books and really liked them. They aren't as good as his BC books but still very fun if you're into the Crusade history during the 13th century. I'm huge into the Crusades (I have the Crusader cross tattooed on my arm.) and was super...

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

The second book is already infinitely better than the first book! It has actual characterization! And it reads more like the BC books. I just wish I retained more from the first book so I could better understand what the heck is going on.

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

Not the second. Just general context.

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

You can spoil the first book no problem haha. I've finished it. Also can you maybe give a proper context to the start of the second book please? Maybe hide the info in a spoiler box so it's easily avoided for those who haven't read the first book? ***spoiler beliw**** Edit: is Bragi a knight...

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

I already have all the audiobooks. I'm confused at the start of the second book because I can hardly remember anything about the first.

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

Awesome! Know of a place where I can a summary of what happened in the first book? Also do you mind if I ask you questions regarding the books?

    Glen Cook's Dread Empire

anyone into this series? The Black Company is one of my all time favorite series. I also really enjoyed his Instrumentalities Of The Night series. Now I'm onto Dream Empire, seems right up my ally. Sadly the first book was largely forgettable. I barely remember any of it. Some things seemed...

Hi All First Post! - Can anyone recommend some great arthurian novels

As mentioned above, check out Mary Stewart! I also highly recommend The Teaitor Son Cycle by Miles Cameron, he draws heavily on Arthurian myths and recreates it in a fun and refreshing way.

Should I read more books by Glen Cook?

I highly recommend Cook! I adore his black company series. Right now I'm currently getting into his Insteumentalies Of The Night series. I really like it so far. But it is fiendishly complex. If you don't know much about history or the Crusades this book will be super confusing. I found a thread...

Different fantasy worlds that mix well.

I just realized that both Deryni and The Traitor Son Cycle both have an alternate earth/historical fantasy feel to them. They are written very differently however the medieval settings are very similar. They mesh well.

Miles cameron - The Traitor Son Cycle

I'm so happy you all like it. This series is easily on par with any other current epic fantasy series.

    Greek/Roman-esque fantasy

Inspite of the self plug, I'll still give his series a read, legit seems interesting.

Miles cameron - The Traitor Son Cycle

I won't spoil anything but the third book features the best single combat fantasy fight scene I've ever read. No joke.

    Romantic Dark/Gritty/Grimdark Fantasy

The Traitor Son Cycle by Miles Cameron has some love/romance. Kingdoms Of Thorn And Bone also features a fair bit. As mentioned earlier, The Black Company has some. The lead character of the first three books is a romantic at heart.

Different fantasy worlds that mix well.

Other similar fantasy worlds with similar deep characterization that I can think of are... ASOIAF I think mixes well with Kingdoms Of Thorn And Bone, Robin Hobbs Farseer world, and somewhat The Traitor Son Cycle.

    To-avoid lists

JRRT: his stuff is too bland and lacks realistic characterization. Guy Gavriel Kay: just plain awful. Zero characterization with the most predictable plot. This guy is so overrated it's redicukois. Patricia Mckillip: I read the first riddle master book and hated most of it. Awesomely...
