It's 2018!! January 2018. What fantasy books are you reading?

I have just finished Memories of Ice which took me a very long time. Overall a fantastic read with some old favourite characters from GotM, some great new ones including the brilliant Lady Envy and a liberal dash of Bauchelain and Broach. On the negative side there was a long section in the...

Chinese Kung Fu Fantasy Classic Translated to English

Never heard of this genre before and it probably isn't my thing but I may well give this a go out of curiosity. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/nov/26/chinese-fantasy-kung-fu-legend-of-the-condor-jin-yong

It's November 2017: What fantasy books are you reading?

I have just finished The Wurms of Blearmouth which I enjoyed for its crazy humour. He writes the short novels very differently from the main Malazan series but I like them. I am now about to start Memories of Ice :)

What do you consider/know is considered to be the great books of the last few years?

I checked this out like I do a lot when people say books are great and found the first book is 99p on the UK Amazon Kindle site. I know there is a dedicated thread for posts like this but thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else is interested in these books based on this recommendation.

It's November 2017: What fantasy books are you reading?

I just finished The Lees of Laughter's End by Mr Erikson and I really enjoyed it. It is not what I expected at all because it was hilarious. Very gruesome but somehow also very funny. Hope The Wurms of Blearmouth is more of the same.

It's November 2017: What fantasy books are you reading?

I've finished Blood Follows but given that I'm not a big fan of short stories/novellas in general, I give it a measly 6/10. Now onto The Lees of Laughter's End.

    Reading in Low Light

Thanks for the tip off on the paperwhites, I'll keep an eye out for the give-aways.

    Reading in Low Light

Thanks for the reply. I have had a couple of kindles in the past but I haven't tried the paperwhite and will definitely have a look at it when my ipad dies. It's not that I have any problems reading on the ipad, it works brilliantly and I don't get headaches or anything like that because I run...

    Reading in Low Light

I recently ditched reading books on my ipad to go back to real books which I prefer. However, I am now old enough that reading in poor light is impossible so I bought a couple of reading lights that clip onto the book itself. These are OK but are still not really bright enough because paperback...

It's November 2017: What fantasy books are you reading?

I have just finished The War of the Flowers which I enjoyed very much (8/10). It's funny and a bit different than standard fantasy books; I shall definitely read some more Tad Williams. Now it's back on the Malazan train with Blood Follows and I can't wait :D

    Logout Timer

Now that is very weird. Fourteen hours after I wrote that last message and I'm still logged in. The computer Gods are mocking me

    Logout Timer

Ah OK, you've answered my question just by saying it doesn't happen to you. Must be at my end and I do use relatively obscure operating systems and a lot of privacy/security addons in Firefox. Weird thing is that it wasn't happening last week and doesn't happen on other sites. Thanks for...

    Logout Timer

Is it just me or has the automatic logout timer on these forums been reduced? It's driving me nuts to have to login every time I come back to the tab on my browser.

Great news, I'll keep an eye out for that.

It's October 2017 - What fantasy books are you reading?

Just finished listening to Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman which was great (9/10) and has me hoping he writes a sequel one day. Continuing the comedy theme, I've started listening to The Colour of Magic - Terry Pratchett, which I suspect will be the start of a long run of Pratchett novels.

    Have You Read This Book?

I understand what you mean about incomplete series, it can very frustrating. As I've explained before I had a huge period of my life where I read very little so I haven't actually read the The Final Chronicles of TC which is on my list in a couple of books time. I'm actually nervous about it...

    Have You Read This Book?

Stephen Donaldson currently sits on top of my favourite author list, though Steven Erikson is likely to take that honour. I remember enjoying Mordant's need as well but don't recall much about it. Did you know he has the first of a new trilogy out on November 16th? It's called Seventh Decimate...

What Game are you Playing ?

Currently replaying GTA V and wondering just how they are going to improve on it next time. Like @Acronix, my MMO fix is greatly reduced down to one night a week running a few dungeons with my friends in WoW.

Cheep Used and New Book Sites

I've used abebooks a few times and can recommend them. It's essentially a portal onto a lot of smaller book shops but that does mean the shipping varies a lot. They have a UK site (http://www.abebooks.co.uk) too.
