Wheel of Time lands with Sony

There's some talk that Natalie Dormer will play Siuan in S2, although I can't find a proper confirmation.

It's August 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I hear that. I actually flicked to the back at about halfway through to see whether I wanted to stay the course or just say "This book is a lovely journey but I found myself going in a direction that seemed meh in a slow way so I decided to get off the bus and say I enjoyed the journey up until...

Wheel of Time lands with Sony

Except they did change the story in a few ways for GoT, and for Harry Potter too, and the LotR movies, and those were gigantic successes. Books and TV/Movies are different mediums. The scale of story you can successfully tell in the latter is smaller than the former and one of the things that...

What Movie or TV show are you watching?

That was clumsily put on my part as in that I was trying to talk about Gaiman's general views on everything, not just politics. Messing around with mythology has been his raison d'etre forever; him messing around with mythology some more should probably be viewed through those lens more than...

Game of Thrones Season 8 (here be spoilers)

I can just about see the Unsullied deciding otherwise for reasons - they're never been the rampagey types. The Dothraki? The World Pillaging Champions? Oh well. One more stray detail is hardly an issue at this point.

Game of Thrones Season 8 (here be spoilers)

My theory is that there was another 3 episodes they shot in between those two moments, but then accidentally destroyed, so they stuck those two moments together and hoped nobody would notice.

Game of Thrones Season 8 (here be spoilers)

Problem is I think the signal's getting perceived as "Waah! Waah!" out there and is allowing people to shrug off criticism as immature. Wonder what will happen with the spin-offs now. I've little intention of watching them, although I don't control the TV remote in my house so who knows.

Game of Thrones Season 8 (here be spoilers)

I enjoyed most of Episode 5 on its own merits. I just kinda wish it was a different show and Game of Thrones was getting a different ending.

It's May 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I'm increasingly like that. Right now I'm halfway through GGK's A Brightness Long Ago and Lindsay Davis' Garden of the Hesperides A Brightness Long Ago is a test of just how slowly you can push a fantasy story, I think. Its closer to Le Carre than most of the rest of the fantasy genre. I'm...

I shall definitely stay the course then - just it may not be first against the wall. This'll also be the first Tchaikovsky I read.

I'm with everyone else here. There's no shortage of people in the world with incredible brainpower in one sphere of activity and an alarming lack of it (and experience) in another. Fair assessment. I gave up on it after around 100 pages so at least you enjoyed it more than me!

I finished King of Assassins. Its dope. That is all. I'm now floating between the following three books as I wait for something to command my attention entirely - Redemption's Blade - Adrian Tchaikovsky The Killing Moon - NK Jemisin Last First Snow - Max Gladstone So far my editing is...

It's April 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I thought the Aeronaut's Windlass was a shallow reflection of Butcher's other books; YMMV, but I'm certainly not recommending you pick it next. Myself, I'm reading RJ Barker's King of Assassins and right now its shaping up to be a fantastic ending. I love the evolution that the series has...

It's April 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Tried reading some Sarah J. Maas so I could find out what the fuss is about - my library is very bad at 1st books for some reason so I picked up the second of the Court of This and That series, and so far its been competently written exposition with a lot of beautiful people brooding. Not sure...
