It's November 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Just getting started on Joe Abercrombie's A Little Hatred, which will go by too fast. Next up will The True Bastards by Jonathan French, sequel to last years The Grey Bastards, a book I had a lot of fun with.

It's November 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Just getting started, about 40 pages in. I am definitely a fan of his books and so far I am really liking this one.

I like *this* so recommend me.....

Just finished Stephen King's The Institute. First King book in years that I have liked, or even been able to finish. I didn't just like it but I loved it. Made me remember why I used to be a Stephen King fan.

I like *this* so recommend me.....

Sincerely, give John Dies At The End by David Wong a chance. It is horror/scifi/humor of the highest order. The sci fi element comes in as the story moves forward and we begin to discover what our "heroes" have stumbled into. There is almost no books that combine humor with serious story telling...

It's October 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

I see quite a few reading some Stephen King. I have just finished The Institute by him. For the first time in a long time I absolutely loved a King book. Now I am just starting Joe Abercrombie's A Little Hatred. Got a feeling I am going to dig that one as well. Happy reading to everyone!

It's May 2019: What fantasy book are you reading?

Halfway through The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Hanrahan. I am really into this one. It is not heavy on action, but the writing and story more than make up for it. The only real action occurs at the beginning. Everything after that is about examining why it happened and who could be involved, and...

Want a Book Suggestion on Horror Story

David does indeed write for Cracked and is an executive editor. His real name is Jason Pargin. In John Dies At The End he gives the reason why he uses the pseudonym David Wong. It's funny and entirely incorrect.

Want a Book Suggestion on Horror Story

I'm with Craig on this one. John Dies At The End was incredible. Combining horror and humor is extremely hard. I'm talking about real horror, as in things get really dark, not just throwing a monster into a funny story. Usually when this is attempted it is like reading two different books, the...

    Urban Fantasy

It is most definitely about taste. That's why I find it best not to use labels like crap or garbage in open forums. I may actually think something is crap but it is just as easy to say I didn't like it. Keeps it personal to me.

    Dark v. Light Fantasy

Terminology is weird. We hear or read something and each individual mind interprets it in its own way. So for me, dark fantasy images as atmospheric, giving feelings of powerlessness, against an unknown or perceived very powerful force or foe. Something mysterious working against you that you...

July 2016. What fantasy books are you reading?

If you want to read Jones at her best ( and her best is really, really good) try the Sword Of Shadows series. A couple of major characters from Book Of Words appear in the series but it is absolutely not important to have read Book beforehand. I hadn't. It wasn't 'til after the first 3 that I...

Dark/Gritty (Game of Thrones) series recommendations?

First, a warning. Like ASOFAI, the series I would recommend also has no end in sight. The author takes years in between books. That being said I really enjoyed the Sword Of Shadows series by J.V. Jones. Yes, it has characters that can be considered good and bad. Mostly however, it is about...
