I loved this one as a kid, but the first attempt to make it was AWFUL, so I'm hoping for better this go around.
I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I would also point out Oprah has a pretty bad track record acting

OMG, watched this on the plane, no amount of open mind can make that right.
It was not just Oprah's acting that was amiss with this movie.
(Not having read the book, I don't know, of course, what amount of my dissatisfaction was due to a bad story)

Well, since Brie Larson was kind enough to inform all of us white dudes that this masterpiece/drivel of a movie wasn't made for us, I won't be subjecting myself to it one way or another.

Might give the books a chance, though, hoping that they've aged well and such.
