The storyline is pretty basic and overall story telling is clumsy. However, Sabaa Tahir does build up excitement and after about 1/3 of the book, you want to just keep reading. I think have two POVs really help this book.

Um i think I would give it a 6/10. I would have given it 7 or higher if there wasn't the few problems I find so distracting like the young characters, the predictability and world building. \you're totally right that it was interesting and I did enjoy it :)

4/10 since it lured me with such high reviews elsewhere. As said above cookie cutter story with a hugely unimaginative world (honestly how many more Roman young adult Roman AU books can there be?).
Also the emotional and moral depth of the book is on the level of a 12 year old and the fighting is lame and is incongruent with the shallow meaning/implications I found.

I more or less agree, a bit too childish for my tastes.

May appeal to someone younger tho.

Still, its not what you would call a literary masterpiece.
