Has anyone else heard of Ted Fauster?

#1
I came across this fantasy author called Ted Fauster. Apparently he is a writer of fantasy. I found him on Myspace and then went to his website (www.tedfauster.com). I bought his new book Deomans in the Afterglow but I can't find anything other books by him. His writing style is really good and easy to read but he still puts alot of action in his book. Does anyone know if he has written anthing else?

[Mod Edit: I've verified that this is actually Ted Fauster posting as a sock puppet. Read the thread if you want a laught at some rather thinly veiled promotional tactics. Ted sure goes to some efforts to "promot" his book with some grand stories]

I'm pretty sure if his website doesn't tell you then it is probably his first book.

I haven't heard of him before tho.

I'm guessing Deomans is his only published work, seeing as it's the only book under his "Published works" section on his web site. Amazon has a Ted Fauster book called "Fauster's Supernatural Survival Guide for the Appalachian Region" published in 1997 but I doubt that has much to do with this site... may not even be the same Fauster.

The design of the website really bugs me. I have a pretty high resolution on my 19" monitor at work and I have to scroll side to side to see the text on the website.

Also... $25 for a PAPERBACK? WTF? (http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/deomans-in-the-afterglow/7154626)

Are you Ted Fauster or in some way related or associated with him, lummy?

Apparently a fantasy author you came across is a writer of fantasy.

But, to answer the question... no, never heard of the guy :)

Why you gotta be a hater L3gacy?

[Apparently a fantasy author you came across is a writer of fantasy.]

And by the way its a trade paperback so it is a 6x9 glossy book. And its better than most of the hardback crap they usually sell for $35 or more. If $25 is too much for your biiig IT salary is south Foriduh??? then you could always buy the download for $5. Or did you miss that? Your such a techy guy Im sure you have a pdf reader? Right?

I don't mind if authors throw the name of their book around here, but only if they are part of the community and PARTICPATE in discussions. It's very bad form to come on here just to try and advertise you book, Ted.

Just joking around, no need to attempt to personally insult me. That kind of attitude will make you no friends here. I also live in north Florida; not sure where you got south. I'm just not really used to seeing $25 paperbacks, even when they are trade; aren't the trade usually $15 and the MMPB around $7? It's been a while since I bought a new book. I'm not a book geek, so I don't care to get first editions and I never buy hardbacks.

You got awfully hostile awfully quick-- are you mad I'm calling you out for hocking a book you're [likely] involved in? I mean, posting "Anyone heard of [previously unknown author]?" as your FIRST POST within 5 minutes of you registering is a bit fishy, not to mention this is the only thread you've made comments in. Kinda shady, friend.

well i don't know about this whole thing. I haven't come across anyone being nasty to each other on here before so that upset me.. seeing as i love this site because i get to share my opinion freely.

IMO if lummy is in some way a relation to Ted and wants to get recognition for his/her work or his/her friends how about he does it like Travis Gill. He was polite and much more likable than someone getting their back up instantly and ruining my perception of a sharing community such as this one.

oh and Travis Gill.. look in the post about requesting a book review.

You started it with the whole roll your eyes thing. I'm not a writer. Sorry. I'm a seux chef at a major resort in Jupiter not a IT specialist or english major. I used to know this guy who was dating out executive chef. I couldn't remember his name but he only lived in Florida, in Palm Beach Gardens I think, for about a year. His name was Ted and I knew that he wrote fiction. But I didn't know I had to put int he whole history so I wouldn't offend anyone. And as far as being involved in promoting the guy I don't even know him. I just saw him once or twice and then i get an email promoting his book probably because he sent one to his ex. Jeez! I feel like you guys are crawling up my you know what? I was jsut trying to find out if anyone knew where he lived and if he had more books. That's all.

I put the Smilie there so you'd know I was joking... guess I picked the wrong one

Anyway, I was just saying this thread was suspicious. You had already found the author's web site which would likely have a list of anything the guy wrote; not to mention it looks like the only place you can get the book is on Lulu.com, which is a self-publishing web site. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, I promise.

PS - I know what a sous-chef is, but what's a seux chef?

You know, I really believed the whole not picking a fight thing l3gacy, untill i read your ps bit :)

But that aside, don't you think we should congratulate Ben? I mean this is, most likely and as far as I know, his first sneaky advertisement right? This forum must be getting famous.
I'm not counting Travis Gill, because he did it in a completely nice way and gave a free book to boot.

Also, I didn't know you did IT, or did that just come out of the blue?

You guys are weird and the ones who started this with hole "roll your eyes" thing. For your information I am one of the top sous chefs at one of the top resorts in Jupiter. The executive chef who used to work here was dating this guy for a while, he was a writer and his name was Ted. I thought it might be him and am just trying to find out where he is and what he is doing. He was a pretty cool guy. His Myspace says he lives in Missouri and in Arizona, how is that possible? He tried writing him but he does not answer--I think he's afraid I will tell his ex, which I would NEVER do. I would not do that to someone. We used to golf alot and I know he was writing alot. So why do you guys have to rip on everyone new? I dont post to all these weird forums all the time. I was just trying to find out where he is. That's all.

please stop calling i site i love weird. your last post could have almost been an apology.

Try and be a little mature. you don't know us, we don't know you. don't call us things that crawl up your ... because that is offensive. If you keep insulting the people and site the rest of us genuinely love to use, of course we will be offended. but you don't see anyone else saying things like you do in our posts.

so please. if you can't be nice and respect what this site is about, and you honestly feel like the people who use it are.. whatever and the site is weird.. then i'm sure the way is clear. don't post here anymore. you know all you can about Ted. we can't help you anymore.

oh and on a side note. I don’t care who you are or what you do for a living I don’t think anyone cares about anyone’s job, just that we love the same genre of books and can talk about it... civilly.

Lummy, you may or may not be Ted Fauster, but for future reference, contribute to the community before posting references to authors. Your post came off as a thinly disguised advertisment.

You are welcome to join our little community, but play by the rules and no one will step on your toes.

This is the real Ted Fauster, and I want to take a few moments to set the record straight.

The other day a friend brought something to my attention, a simple Google search that yielded some rather disheartening results. Those results led me here, and I have to say that I am appalled by what I’m finding.

This “lummy” person (or in this case, persons) must think he/she is rather clever. He/she also posted on my board, which is how I came to believe he/she found yours. Over on my end, each post came through as strange yet oddly revealing. Very tenacious and disturbingly persistent. When I read some of the detail contained in the posts over on your board it all came crashing together.

I have a very good idea of who this person is, and let me tell you they are not nearly as dim witted as they are trying so very hard to appear. In fact, the “wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing” approach is a little too obvious, don’t you think? I find the amount of purposefully included detail about a poor, hard-working young chef absolutely sickening. Does the person you are trying so hard to mimic know you are doing so? Would you like for me to tell them? These posts were meant to draw me out. To this end, lummy, you have succeeded. But I think you may have poured it on a little thick.

You’ve all fallen into the middle of a very elaborate and carefully executed smear campaign based on a personal vendetta. How very sad. Again, I apologize. Part of the reason I initially kept my distance from the Internet was for this very reason. My heart sank when I read a response to one of the posts that pretty much sums things up: “the worst form of advertising.” I couldn’t agree more.

To the person in question, it appears you haven’t broken any laws. But there is a line. And you, my friend, have just crossed it. I noticed another post condemning an IT professional, and while I refuse to engage in any crossfire (you simply aren’t worth the effort) I will say this: IT professionals keep this world running, and I’m proud and thankful to have several as my close and personal friends. They’re pretty smart guys and gals. If I ever hear of any maligning comments being posted by you on this or any other board I will not stop until I find you. And I will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.

For the rest of you, once again, I can only offer my deepest apologies. Smear campaigns are sneaky and damaging, and public forums are easy targets. Fantasy fiction is supposed to be a safe place, a retreat from the often incessant depravity of the real world, a place where folks can explore, travel to new and interesting places, live out alternate lives, believe in magic, and, if only for a brief moment, feel truly free. To see real-world sickness and evil seeping into these hallowed grounds saddens me to no end.

I’m signing off now. I won’t post here again and I wish you all nothing but the very best. However this madness leaves you feeling, you must refuse to feel threatened or standoffish in any way. Stick together, and support the authors you love, many of whom are discussed on your board each day. As for me, I’m very easy to find and those of you who wish to contact me may do so at any time. All are welcome. Except for you, lummy.

Warm Regards,

Ted Fauster

Mode Edit: Actually, Ted Fauster is lummy. Their IP addresses are exactly the same, lol. Nice try Ted, but still a fail. Thank's for the laugh though
