When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more…

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them…

It is sad when the description on the back of the book is the best part of the entire novel. I sat down and gritted my way through a chapter of Laurel Hamilton's attempt at writing just to find myself undoubtedly annoyed. If you're stronger than me and able to ignore someone's writing style, her storyline is absolutely amazing, and something you might enjoy.

If you decide to read these books, read them till/and the "Obsidian Butterfly". After that, the whole thing goes straight to hell. The heroes act completely out of character, the story becomes non-existent and the series becomes an extremely bad written erotica.

This story has more depth of character than most people ever even dream about, if they could get over their own prudishness and see it they would be all the better for it.

In both the Anita Blake series and the Merry Gentry series, the first two novels are alright. After that, it's nothing but sex, more sex, and more sex (with some mild rape).

This is the most up to date of the books. I found the further Anita goes the more powerful and less human she get!! This is not necessarily a good thing. It feels like it dragging for the sake of it now. i'll have to think about this one!!
