"My biggest complaint was that this was too obviously a middle-aged male author's botched attempt at portraying a young female protagonist (Terisa). Terisa's thoughts and motivations were heavily-influenced by MALE psyche and ego to the point of being unrealistic."

Maybe it's because you yourself are male that you found the protagonist realistic, but as a woman, I have to say that I found the female lead ridiculous, annoying, and weak. I really tried to like and understand her, but she just never got all that much better.

I have read a lot of fantasy books, or just plural a lot of books. And I have to say that these two books are my all time favourite. It just kept me captivated from beginning to end. I don't know what it is actually. I let other people read it, and most of them didn't like the books.
