I was very happy to see this make the list. I stumbled upon it at the library in the books on tape. I needed something for a long ride to listen to while driving alone. Yes it is a children's story but I was enthralled. The imagery is wonderful. The young boy's reality and fantasy start to blend into each other. You really become attached to the character and want to follow him until the end! I have always held onto this book as one of my favorites. It's short - can read in one weekend. Give it a try! You will not regret it!
