    Hmm, I'd do a little fact-checking here before calling The Broken Sword "modern." It was published the same year as The Lord of the Rings (1954) and is older than several of your books in the classic section, including Elric and Imaro.

    Still, Poul Anderson does not belong in the 'early' or 'pre-Tolkien' section.
