My most loved series as a kid... maybe it's nostalgic because 'The Book of Three' was the first fantasy book i ever read. These stories are poignant, full of humor, action, mystery, and so much wisdom and insight. You love the main characters in this story, you root and cheer for them and you cry for them. Disney made a horribly butchered version of 'The Black Cauldron'.... if you've watched it forget it, and if you never have watched it, don't even try. Best YA fantasy series ever!

This is a wonderful children's series. Highly recommend it. Also a must for those adults who managed to miss reading it growing up.

Do not by any means watch the Disney version of the Black Cauldron (what a pile of ...). So glad I read the books before I had any idea that existed.

The best fiction novels I've ever read, and the only series I could honestly recommend for both children (9 ) and adults. You won't be able to put it down.

I can never forget this series. It was my first fantasy series and what got me started on the genre in the 4th grade.

I'm going to have to reread this some day. It's been so many years now since I read this as a young boy. I don't even remember any of the plot, just certain characters. Eilonwy (sp?) was probably the first girl I fell in love with.

I´m surprised to find Lloyd Alexander on this list, given his reputation as an eminent writer of children´s fantasy I would have thought he was the obligatory read when children started out in the genre. The Chronicles of Prydain was one of my favourites as a child along with Susan Cooper`s The Dark is Rising.
