The sun is setting on humanity. The night now belongs to voracious demons that prey upon a dwindling population forced to cower behind half-forgotten symbols of power. Legends tell of a Deliverer: a general who once bound all mankind into a single force that defeated the demons. But is the return of the Deliverer just another myth? Perhaps not. Out of the desert rides Ahmann Jardir, who has forged the desert tribes into a demon-killing army. He has proclaimed himself Shar’Dama Ka, the Deliverer, and he carries ancient weapons—a spear and a crown—that give credence to his claim. But the Northerners claim their own Deliverer: the Warded Man, a dark, forbidding figure. Once, the Shar’Dama Ka and the Warded Man were friends. Now they are fierce adversaries. Yet as old allegiances are tested and fresh alliances forged, all are unaware of the appearance of a new breed of demon, more intelligent—and deadly—than any that have come before.

This book doesen't deserve to be on this list! Even tho it is not as good as book 1 this still is a very well written book in my opinion!

Definitely worse than the first one. Not that bad, but still the expectations were greater after the Warded Man. But my impression was that the reason is not only a litereary one. In the beginning only a Warded Man trilogy was planned. However after the success of the first book it turned out that there are to be 5 books. And my impression is that the author desperately tried to come up with ideas to fill in the additional 2 books. And in such situations shit may happen...

I'll admit the book is dull in places - Renna's backstory for instance- but it was still a great read. Definitely shouldnt be anywhere near this list.

I loved the warded man. The desert spear wasn't as good I will admit but it is still a good book. The new characters added more depth to the storyline and added complexity to the world. Especially with jardir. This book should be no where near the list. If you want a bad series then there are ones much worse for sequels.

Sorry, think you must have read a different book? Read your review between books 1

Finally! I'm not the only one who was utterly appalled by the butchery committed in this book. Lesha's character became so disgusting, I was at a loss for words, and between the constant flashbacks, the focus on a character and culture I had never had any interest for, and the stale, unmoving Story that kept treading water while making me slowly dislike all the characters I had grown to like in book 1? It's a wonder it's not higher up the list.

OMG, The Warded Man was one of the worst books I have ever read, I didn't even continue the series because that book fell to pieces in the last 3rd. Now I'm glad I didn't cuz if the second book was worse... well than shit, totally dodged a bullet.

'...including 70 year old men who wield spears like heroes from a Greek saga.' I believe that Alexander the Great wanted to retire his soldiers when they were over seventy, they weren't happy about it, and they'd been traipsing about the countryside fighting for years. So... perhaps these villagers aren't so unbelievable after all.

I just wanted to thank you so much. You managed to cover Mercedes NotLikely, Badkind, Peter VeryLame Brett AND Stephanie Major Mistake in one perfect list. I went through Last Herald Mage (ok - most of it) and thanks to it I met the most whinny and illogical book character EVER. Guys is unhappy basically all the time for various reasons (like he tends to be unhappy that he found a BF, that he is super-duper mage etc). Like - maybe he got used to being unhappy while he was a kid and he just continues just BECAUSE? Who knows. Badkind/Goodkind - all the works written with one hand are posted on fanfiction website or other of this kind. Rated for sexual violence. Plus WTF morals. I managed till 5th book before I gave up because I'm compulsive type of reader. But... I wanted to badly for Richard to get his sword of righteousness poked RIGHT into his ass... Brett- what kind of name is it? Sounds like someone puke. But seriously - I cannot even say what is wrong with his books without listing EVERYTHING. Let's start with funny part - the same thing written from point of view of multiple characters, cat, dog and a canary. In multiple books! WHY? Plus when I read this book my first encounter with Diablo demo on my old PC came to my mind. Like- you slay demons using Barbarian, Sorcerer, Assassin or Druid maybe? What 4? ANDDDDDD.... Twilight! I read 1 book. I thought some action will start later on in the book. And I had still hope after reaching 1/2 of the book, AND 3/4. And then it finished. I felt so much screwed. Thank you dear Authors of the list. I will NEVER EVER read rest of the books listed... Thank you for saving my time and mind from being violated by bad fiction.
