Holding breath in anticipation for the last book. Will not judge the story until it has ended. As a single book, however, it is good but not the greatest despite being so popular.

This book just swallows you whole. No letdowns, no tedious chapters you have to fight through. Reading this book, you feel a bit like in a role playing game, with the main character levelling up and trying to gain resources. Something I like best about the book in comparison to other books in the top 25 (read a little more than half of them), Rothfuss doesn't need to let constantly everything go to rack and ruin (at least not so far, the present Kvothe makes you anticipate that's going to happen sooner or later unfortunately, but I hope it's not going to be the large part of the story) to then have a blazing and heroic resurgence of 10 pages just before the end. It's a very satisfactory read, pleasant and still very exciting.

One of the best books I've ever read. It hooks you and you're set. It doesn't describe everything like: the blades of grass were neatly trimmed with the pale light of the moon dully glistening off of the dew that hung upon the blades. It doesn't under or overdescribe anything like tolkien does. It is easy to fly through and enjoyable all the while.

    Surprise!!!

This book is awesome. Might go down as a classic, or at least deserves to (it probably won't actually, but hey, it was still awesome)

This is by far my favorite book. I thought the story was intriguing and it pulled me in from the beginning; I also loved the writing style. I can't wait for the final book; it is taking forever!

This book has a clever magic system, likeable hero and intriguing mystery.

Beautifully written and emotive, leaves me eagerly waiting its sequels.

The magic system and the intrigue is fairly interesting.

    But I couldn't finish it.

The character was introduced as some kind of genius prodigy capable of everything.

But as soon as he becomes a teenager he turns into an incompetent moron who can play the lute and do a couple of magic tricks.

He has no understanding of his environment. Despite his much lauded "curiosity", he has no interest in better understanding his environment.

The plot revolves around a mystery that he's trying to solve when he can't even put 2 and 2 together to make 4. By the middle of the book he constantly needs his girlfriend to explain the simplest deductions.

You can't just give a character demi-god like abilities and intellect when it's convenient to make him sound cool. But then turn him into an incompetent moron when you need to create plot twists or make his girlfriend seem less than useless.

I must be a surface reader as well because I completely agree with these comments on how a genius can be such a dumb ass. Find this book very over rated

There's really nothing I can say that others haven't already stated. The story telling is phenomenal.Rothfuss has the uncanny ability speak volumes in but a few sentences.

As much as I love these books it should be said that there are one or two(small) flaws, some of the characters feel like carbon copies of other characters but with new names, there are also a couple small hiccups with the continuity of the story(however I only noticed them because I've read the books innumerable times).

This is the only series I've ever read in a marathon reading session, finished, and then read again immediately afterwards. I can't overstate how great these books are!

The main character would make more sense in a wish-fulfillment fan fiction than in an actual novel and the books are too long for their meager plot, but if you can get past that, there's enough good in there too to make the books an entertaining read.

I liked this book but found it got pretty slow at times. I liked most of the main characters, but some of them(looking at you Kvothe) come across as completely brain dead at times. I found the action scenes pretty satisfying, but too few and far between.

IMO, the sequel is much better.
