I have agreed with a lot of the books on the worst list but not this one. When i read it years ago i didn't know Card was a mormon and while years later i can obviously see the link, i really don't think it matters. This is just a great story and should be classed as one of the best historical fantasy series ever!!

Agreed. This should be in the Top 25. I am shocked that this is on the Worst list. This site is losing credibility by the day.

I think people should throw out the whole Mormon idea and just read this book at face value. It's a highly original and cleverly written FANTASY STORY. This is like taking a swim in a deep lake, compared to reading The Name of the Wind for example, which is like stepping in a rain puddle--it's that shallow.

I read a lot of (to not say all, because, well, once never know ...) Orson Scott Card and all I read was dealing with his fascination for religion and/or cult, even Ender (remember the people becoming trees ...). I am a deist to not say an atheist (as a physicist I tend to prove that everything is connected ... maybe thus there is a "god"). However never ever the religion of Card bothered me. Why? Well, (1) I love arguing, I love people to share their opinions even if they differ from mine; (2) since the human beings are called human beings religion exists, it is thus not something that an author should avoid in a fantasy book. Did I found some chapters of Card's Books to be a little to close to what I read in the Bible/Koran/etc and a little too long ... YES. Did it make me think about my own "religious" convictions? YES. So for me, Cards did it just fine ...

I agree with you on most, but I think you missed on this one. I've reread it semi-recently, and it holds up well. This is no Goodkind.

Surprised to see this on the list. For sure the earlier books are better and its not great fantasy, but the worst fantasy ever written and boring? No.

I knew nothing of Mormon's before reading the books and still don't, and do I care? No.
