Harry Potter has no idea how famous he is. That's because he's being raised by his miserable aunt and uncle who are terrified Harry will learn that he's really a wizard, just as his parents were. But everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend an infamous school for wizards, and he begins to discover some clues about his illustrious birthright. From the surprising way he is greeted by a lovable giant, to the unique curriculum and colorful faculty at his unusual school, Harry finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed and closer to his own noble destiny.

The series that got me reading fantasy. No matter how many times I reread it, I still love it.

It's "Neuromancer". Not "Necromancer"

It's far better than you may expect. Interesting world and really well written characters. And from the first to the 5th book every next book is better than the last. The 6th and the 7th books are also very good, but worse than the 5th.

Good but still overrated considering its popularity.

I refused to read this series for a long time before I was convinced to give it a shot, and I can honestly say... it was one of the best series I've ever read (top 5 for sure). The first two books are a little kiddy, but the world she invented here is just fascinating. Probably the most consistant page turner of a series I've read. There are practically zero slow points, and at book 3, the series just takes off. This series also has one of the most phenominal and powerful endings to any series I've read. Amazing series and beyond worth reading. Anyone who says otherwise is just hating.

While this series is very good, I do feel it is a bit overrated. I am astounded by the number of people who say that this series is doing something new. It isn't. It really isn't. There are a million other books written before H.P. that did something similar. Rowling just appealed to the general public more. Does that make this series bad? No, but it has far too many clichés and boring moments to have it rank among my all-time favorites. It might make my top 20 list, though.

I don't believe that JR wrote, on her own, anything after book 2.- maybe after book 1. The writing style is completely different. I believe that JR provided the story but not the word for word details. I have read the series at least 7 times and love each page, and highly recommend it. Just think she had a lot of help- which made the story better

Okay first off, I love Harry Potter. It was what got me into fantasy. Despite my love for it it is extremely overrated and isn't quite as good as it was when I first read it. Good books, but nowhere on the level as, say, Lord of the Rings or Malazan.

I cannot act the critic for any books that I`ve read but I can tell you all how those books made me feel, which is the most important thing for me. I`ve started reading Harry Potter when I was 11, its the age Harry goes to Hogwarts, and his magical life started. I still keep on reading these series. I believe that everyday is more beautiful and full of hope when I start it by reading at least one page of these series. I believe that J K Rowling made me a better person. It made me stronger.

Not what comes to mind when I think Urban, but awesome series regardless :)

Harry Potter is most likely the BEST fantasy series I've ever read. I'm a HUGE PotterHead; if I hadn't read Harry Potter, I wouldn't be into fantasy novels! Harry Potter changed my life, and I'll never forget it.

Why is the author of Harry Potter listed as Frank Herbert? What are they trying to say?

I first read it when I was 11, and every time I reread it, it gets better. The plot is unique, very complete and well thought out, the protagonist is someone you can relate with, and the ending is sensational and leaves little to be desired. There are some truly astonishing and beautiful scenes that you understand better the more you read and the older you get (eg. King's Cross in book 7). Many say it's overrated, but I think not. It's one of the most influential, original, and well-written series of the modern age. It deserves all the hype it gets.

Ummm... You have the author listed as Frank Herbert , and while Dune is marvellous, I'm pretty sure J.K Rowling (A.K.A the real Queen of England) is the author of The Harry Potter series.

This series is absolute garbage.

Good series but overrated as fuck. Not to mention featuring the one of the most insipid and least impressive villain in the history of fiction (if not the most). This series is good only for market value, in quality its nowhere near the like of Abraham's or Martin's or Erikson's work.
