Felipe de Castro, the vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.

Now it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s set out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

The first four, I loved. I couldn't even finish the series because it got that bad. If you think this series is enjoyable, I suggest you pick up the Hollows series about Rachel Morgan by Kim Harrison. The final installment will be coming out September 2014, and I have looked forward to every single book I've read in this series.

I stuck it out and read (and paid for) the series up until the last book which I boycotted. I heard that readers were angry about the end of the series so I read one of the reviews with spoilers. This was one of those instances where I felt that the author didn't respect her audience enough to reward them for supporting her, both with loyalty and dollars, for years. I knew WAY too much about those characters and tolerated the parts (take that any way you want) that were too explicit and then felt like Harris had a big laugh at her readers expense at the end.

What if vampires "came out" to the public? What would be the fallout, and how can a misfit mind-reader make sense of it all? I thought the series was really well-done, and I'm glad I read to the end... until I reached that last book. I hope you'll give the series a chance. It was FAR better than I thought it would be. I'm also glad I wasn't turned off to these books by the god-awful True Blood shows.
