I heard about how horrible this was form bestfantasybooks.com, and thought, well, how bad can a book be? So I went to Amazon and read a small sample. Turns out, this book's quality was SO BAD, that I FELT LIKE BITING MY OWN LEG OFF TO SURVIVE. I felt like my brain was bleeding out my ears. It was really that horrible.

You know how in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the worst writing in the universe comes from a woman from England? Well, I think that Douglas Adams had a big typo; surely the worst writing comes from Robert Stanek.

Stanek's world itself is extraordinarily cliched. Dragons, elves, humans, dwarves, big eagles... my imaginary friend from kindergarten had more originality in her left toenail than Stanek's world multiplied by 1,000. The only character that I saw, from what I could tell, was unoriginal - a girl that does not to get married, so plans to run away. But what was the most devestating about this world was its prose, which was so horrible, in fact, that I wanted to weep for Stanek becuase I deeply pitied how not only does he write like Paolini with severe Alzheimer's, but it's obvious that he's very proud of his work.

The begining of Keeper Martin's tale takes up 4 pages of unclear, horrific prose with some elf girl's angst about... marrige? I dunno, I seems like marrige, but it is so horrificly put together that you have no idea what is going on. Apparently, she is a teenager, and some person she knew will get married, and she wants to get married but can't but maybe will, or maybe doesn't want to and then the wind comes and she talks to it and some old lady comes and makes some random remarks to her and... I know less about what's going on than before I started reading the book.

So please avoid Stanek, unless you want to laugh your butt off at how horrible his books are.

How bad could a book really be that was never read? Don't really care!! I took a moment and went to Robert Stanek's website and within 3 minutes of reading, I have decided that a bit of jail time would due for starters. Let me explain myself: Anyone who pretends to have earned one of our nations highest awards really dishonors all who have received the award. This would be the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross. Made a quick inquire to see if he was on the honored list. Sorry!! FRAUD!!

Yeah...after reading some of Keeper Martin's Tale (Ruin Mist Chronicles, Book 1), I think my IQ dropped.

I have read two or three books a week since I was young, so I've read quite a few. And I can say, without a doubt, this has to be one of the worst books ever published. I actually laughed out loud a few times at the ridiculous dialogue. "Smell the wind... Can't you smell it?" Is a real line from the book.

Innocuous enough until you read further and there is absolutely no explanation as to why our heroin should "smell the wind". Sounds like something my alcoholic uncle would say after a few drinks and eating a bad bean burrito...
I enjoy most books either for their novelty or some other positive quality, but this book is one of the few books I enjoyed for its terrible quality. I feel guilty laughing at what was probably a serious effort on the authors part, but I can't help myself. It's just that bad.

If you have some time to kill, a good sense of humor, and enjoy literary train wrecks, then give this one a shot... Or throw some magnetic poetry at the fridge. It's almost guaranteed to create better dialogue, but then you'll miss out on snickering at this ridiculous attempt at writing.

I couldn't even listen to 10 minutes of the audio before exiting.
I literally shut if off as soon as I heard it.
And what is happening with those covers jeez.

There is one thing I have to disagree with the reviewer and owner of the site. He claims that Stanek is a bad and terrible writer, I disagree for to call a writer bad still denotes that there is still a limited amount of skill to write. Stanek doesn't even have that.

Robert Stanek likes to take a shit on the toilet while writing his books.

I have to respectfully disagree with the author of this website. I'm a Robert Stanek fan. My family has made a tradition of sitting around the fireplace reading aloud from his books. We do this every Wednesday and Friday nights, and have done so for years. It is the highlight of the week. His worlds are awe inspiring and brilliantly smart. A wordsmith and a scholar are how best to describe this man of men.
