    I can see your point about feist. I absolutely loved Magician, it was the first book I ever read but feist died alongside Arutha!

    There's a reason Krondor: The Betrayal is such terrible dreck: it was Feist's novelization of an RPG video game developed by Dynamix in the early 90's:

    The setting (Midkemia) was taken from Feist's earlier novels, but the plot, characters, etc. were made by the game developers. Feist then wrote a novel which followed the plot of the video game and contained all the same characters etc. So that's part of the reason they are so wooden and terrible.

    I agree that his first few books were among the best though, and Krondor: The Betrayal is among the worst.
