Vampire Books

It's clear that Vampire books are here to stay. There's been a craze over vampire books the past couple of years with the meteoric popularity of the Twilight series, first with the books then later the movies. Twilight has spawned a goldrush of vampiric fiction being released at an unprecedented rate. The Sookie Stackhouse novels too have helped to full an additional vampire/paranormal fiction craze (as evidenced by the popularity of the True Blood series which are based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels).

However, unbeknownst to many younger readers and new readers to the vampire genre is that there has always been a bit of a vampire craze that's never ended. It started with Bram Stoker's Dracula. This was the book that put the modern concept of "vampires" on the map. And from then on, vampires have shown up time and time again in pop culture.

Depending on what sort of vampire fiction you like (romantic vampire books, detective vampire books, vampire books for kids, vampire books for adults, racy vampire books, etc), there are a horde of choices for you. Just be aware there is a WHOLE lot more to the vampire genre outside of Twilight, many of them spectacularly good.

Here are our recommendations for the best Vampire Books, broken down by your specific taste in vampire fiction. My recommendations is that both young and old readers start with "The Best Vampire Books", but if you are the sort that links YA Vampire books or romance vampire novels, than you might want to take a look at the other lists.

Best Vampire Books -- THE BEST the vampire genre has to offer. And no, Twilight is NOT one of them.

Vampire Romance Books -- A list of some of the more popular (and recommended) vampire romance novels.

Vampire Books for Adults -- If you want some vampire fiction for adults (with all the sizzling and sultry content you could want), this is the list for you

Vampire Books for Young Adults / Teenagers -- If you want some vampire books for younger teenagers or preteens, the books on this list are recommended. Far less "racy" content than some of the other recommendations.

You've done an amazing job with this and the other lists, but I just wanted to add this seminal vampire novel to the collection as I feel it is among the best.

I would like to recommend Glass Souls by Michaela August (pseud.). The paper edition is now OP, but it is still available on Kindle and a bargain at any price.

I just revisited and saw what you've done since I last commented. And can I just take a moment to say: YOU ARE AWESOME. That is all.

I think you did an awesome job with this list, and with this website as a whole. I've definitely read a lot of books in the last year or two that were recommended by you (Liveship/Farseer, A Song of Ice and Fire, Mistborn, and the list goes on). I think the new lists recently added are fantastic, and I'm definitely looking forward to diving into some of the new books and series you've listed.

I was wondering if you could do a list of the best urban fantasy series? Most of them could probably be listed under the vampire tab here. The problem is there is so much mediocre stuff written in this sub-genre and it's become really hard to wade through it to find the few gems. I know people might start asking, "What about the best steampunk/dark fantasy/alternate history/etc.?" but I'm hoping you can help me out.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Glad you like the website and the new content. Yes, I will be adding a few new lists shortly, one which is the best urban fantasy and another the best dark fantasy. I eventually hope to have a best list for every subgenre of fantasy.

Cheers

Ben
